This week’s Daly City Crime Alert and Community Update Bulletin contains an item so disturbing that it’s worth passing along.
On Thursday, Jan. 18, an 18-year old woman met a man claiming he was a cop at the Westlake Shopping Center. The two exchanged phone numbers and the man started texting the woman pictures of him “wearing police-style gear and displaying firearms.”
If this doesn’t sound right, you’re not alone. The pics spooked the young woman’s father, so he contacted the Daly City Police. Not recognizing his image as someone from the force, the police coordinated a sting with the young woman. She arranged to meet up with her new law-enforcement-obsessed friend at a Daly City coffee shop, but when he rolled up in his “black Ford Explorer decked out with lights and a siren,” he found Daly City Police detectives waiting for him.
The crime report describes the suspect as a 25-year-old Fairfield man wearing a ballistic vest and “carrying a Taser and a baton.” The detectives arrested the man for impersonating a police officer.
