Police blocked off part of the Financial District this afternoon after the bomb squad was called in over a possible explosive near New Montgomery and Market streets.
SF Weekly Staff Writer Joe Eskenazi was passing by when he spotted the drama in downtown. He tells us that police evacuated the bank building at 33 New Montgomery Street and brought out a robot-like tank to help “dispose” of the item.
According to Lt. Simon Silverman, who is at the scene, bank employees found an item the size of a handheld device inside an old safety deposit box at the bank. “They immediately called police, who have taken the item and are disposing it,” he said.
