S.F. Officials to Speak at Rally for Reproductive Rights Tomorrow

The ACLU of Northern California, NARAL Pro-Choice America and several other organizations will be co-sponsoring a rally outside City Hall on the Polk Street steps tomorrow at noon to protest the Stupak-Pitts Amendment.

The Stupak-Pitts amendment adds language to the pending massive health care reform bill that, if passed, would allocate funds to women for abortions only in the case of rape, incest and when the mother's life is in danger. In addition to dictating the circumstances under which women can obtain an abortion, the amendment would also stipulate that families receiving a government subsidy for health care (any four-person family making $88,000 a year or less) be prohibited from purchasing insurance that covers abortion.
