The Blue Angels are already running the occasional test flights past downtown high-rises and typically placid northern neighborhoods, all in celebration of the annual Fleet Week proceedings. But the roars of the jets will be a common (and very loud) occurrence beginning Thursday. Whether you’re a Blue Angels fan who wants to pull up a window seat, or a disgruntled sonophobe who needs to find the earplugs and hide your terrified dog, here’s your Fleet Week schedule of practice flights and airshow flights.
Thursday, Oct. 4, 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Airshow practice
Friday, Oct. 5, 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Airshow flights
Saturday, Oct. 6, 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Airshow flights
Sunday, Oct. 7, 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Airshow flights
Monday, Oct. 8, 10:00 a.m. Blue Angels departure
This is merely a schedule of the flights, and does not include any of the significantly less-sonic ship tours, parades, and concerts. The full Fleet Week schedule of events is available online.
You’ll notice there are still also Monday morning Blue Angels flights as the jets depart town, so keep that in mind should you be harboring a hangover from your Fleet Week, bluegrass festival, or Castro Street Fair celebrations.
The airshows are free, though you can buy Fleet Week box seats, VIP access, or private chalets at Marina Green. Fleet Week in San Francisco dates back to 1981, and brings more than a million visitors into town each year.
