After a relatively calm month with no murders reported, the homicide rate has skyrocketed in the past few days. Around 11:15 a.m. Thursday morning a woman was killed after being shot in the Excelsior District. She was later identified as Vanessa Palma, 34.
At the scene, police seemed particularly focused on a black sedan, parked out CoCo’s Bar on Mission Street. The victim was transferred to the hospital but succumbed to her injuries.
The owner of a laundromat across the street, who declined to give a name, said police were retrieving surveillance video footage. The suspect fled and no arrest has been reported.
A few hours later, two people were allegedly injured in a shooting in the housing complex just north of Cesar Chavez, along Treat Ave. and Kamille Court, and one man, 21-year-old Jaime Poole, was killed.
Brent Andrew, a spokesman for San Francisco General Hospital, said the hospital had received three victims from the incident, all men in their 20s. Poole died around 4 p.m., another is in critical condition, and the third in serious condition.
