Coming soon to a neighborhood near you — a tobacco ban that isn't.

Here in San Francisco, we've got a penchant for feel-good legislation that inadvertently does bad. But what about feel-good legislation that actually makes you feel bad — as in, say, gives you a hacking cough?

That could be the case with a beaut of a bill going before the supervisors' City Operations and Neighborhood Services Committee today. So, without further ado, let the rundown begin:

Monday
10:30 a.m.: The CONS committee is going to take a look at a Gavin Newsom classic this morning: A bill banning the sale of tobacco products within 1,000 feet of a school. Just another piece of characteristic enviro-posturing from the Gav, you say? Not so fast — this one's got a pretty hilarious twist.
