The summer solstice conjures up images of Mother Earth types dancing around barefoot in Golden Gate Park. But for Bay Area sailors, the longest weekend days of the year are an excuse to “sail locally, celebrate globally” at the fifth annual Summer Sailstice. Organizer John Ardnt told us that the yearly event is the seafaring community’s way of encouraging landlubbers to get out on the water. Don’t have any friends with a sailboat? These sea dogs welcome gobs and greenhorns alike to become a part of their crews. On Saturday, poke your nose into Alameda’s half-dozen yacht clubs, which are having a joint open house, or navigate your way to Tiburon’s Paradise Cove Park for the South Beach Yacht Club’s blowout barbecue.
