If you’ve been in San Francisco for a long time, you’ve probably heard the phrase, “No one is from San Francisco.” This isn’t technically true, but it feels true. Ask the person sitting next to you where they were born, and most likely the answer won’t be San Francisco. We come to this wonderful grey metropolis to escape our parents, to escape close-minded people, or just to chase our dreams. We find friends, we make art, and sometimes we even make our own holidays -- we have a lot to be thankful for here. But if there’s a downside to being in a city of immigrants, it’s that when the traditional holidays come, so many of our friends skip town to be with their “real” families.
