Each year, New Italian Cinema celebrates the rich cinematic tradition of Italy and brings the country's newest directors and films to audiences in San Francisco. The 2009 edition presents seven narrative features from Italy's emerging class of filmmakers in competition for the prestigious City of Florence Award, a trio of titles from acclaimed director Marco Risi and culminates in a Closing Night screening of veteran Marco Bellocchio's latest masterpiece Vincere. Attendees enjoy not only a vibrant cinema showcase, but an immersion into Italy’s rich and storied culture with directors present to illuminate their work in lively question-and-answer sessions.
Commemorate the best in contemporary Italian cinema at Opening Night on Sunday, November 15 with acclaimed director Marco Risi and his latest film Fortapàsc. Risi’s fast-paced, coolly observational drama is a striking recreation of the last four months in the life of Giancarlo Siani, a young journalist killed by the Neapolitan mob in 1985 for digging too deeply into their affairs.
