Starbelly (3583 16th St. at Market) has the right idea for summertime dining: Check out its new Patio Picnic Tuesdays. Chef Adam Timney has devised a different theme for each week's family-style "urban picnic," with classics like fried chicken, barbecue ribs, and whole roasted pig paired with vegetable sides, salad, and dessert. You can enjoy them with carafes of wine, pitchers of beer, or sangria. Highlights from July 13's Cajun menu include cornmeal-fried catfish, jambalaya with housemade andouille and Gulf prawns, and peach cobbler.

Patio Picnic Tuesdays happen from 5 to 8 p.m. and cost $25 per person; guests are welcome to second helpings. Call 252-7500 to make reservations. Walk-ins are also accepted.
In the second of Bi-Rite's three-part "wines that make you go hmmm" tasting series, wine expert Trac Le hosts Off-Beat Wines of Italy on Monday, July 19, at 18 Reasons (593 Guerrero at 18th St.). The tasting and discussion will take on a group of refreshing but lesser-known red and white wines from Italy. There will be snacks, too.

The tasting costs $50 per person.
