(A slice of Jay Howell's new print "Here's Some People," available at Fecal Face's gallery)Last Friday night I hit up Fecal Face's gallery to check out the new print for sale from one of my favorite local artists, Jay Howell (at $75 a pop, these prints are a steal...his stuff's soared to over $600 at other galleries). Jay told me he's working on a new issue of his Forest City Rockers project, and this next one will focus on Thee Oh Sees. In the meantime, you can check in on Jay (and his knack f
"Portrait of the artist Paul Booth" by Shawn Barber
No more than a few days ago, Bay Area artist Shawn Barber unveiled new works in the "Anathema" two person show at the Last Rites Gallery in New York. The pieces in that show are Shawn's first collection of erotic paintings. Previously, we saw Shawn working on his tattooed portrait series, and for those of us who were itching to take some of it home, he has some new prints and a book, "Forever and Ever." He's the conductor of New York Night Train, a traveling showcase of classic 45s that's pulling into San Francisco for the weekend. He'll be DJing a house/bus party in Oakland on Friday, hitting the turntables between acts for Quintron a
This dude really, really wanted to win. He air humped another dude on the dance floor. Soul ClapElbo RoomMonday, July 27, 2009Better than: Grease, Grease 2, Grease LightningIf you still believe people in San Francisco don't dance, you're going to the wrong shows. You can complain all you want about folks in other cities standing with arms crossed in clubs, but in this town it takes very little to get people to shake a little ass, hump a little air, or shuffle a little shoulder when there's a
