  • "Mythographic Vicissitudes" by Ron English at Fifty24SF

We all love Shepard Fairey and Banksy, but let's not forget that their current shine wouldn't be possible without the street art of Ron English. English follows up  2008's The Secret History of Kiss with next year's Mythographic Vicissitudes at Fifty24SF Gallery. Moving on from his juxtaposition of art history and KISS makeup, English's upcoming solo exhibit explores variations on modern mythologies, from Jesus to Bigfoot to Expressonism. Mythographic Vicissitudes opens with a reception Th

  • Make-Your-Own-Obama-Poster Web Site Easily Used for Nefarious Purposes

When the folks at Paste magazine gave everyone with an Internet connection the chance to make an Obama-style poster of the sort created by former San Francisco artist Shepard Fairey, they had to figure there'd be lots of cute kitties, puppies, and babies and no end to words that rhyme with "hope." Well, there are. But while being cute has its merits, it's much more fun to do inappropriate things: Click below for a few more Obaminations.

  • Friday Night: Willie Nelson at the Fillmore

Willie Nelson/Lukas Nelson & The Promise of the Real The Fillmore Review by Jonathan Kiefer January, 16, 2009 Better Than: The last eight years? It happened maybe three-quarters of the way through the evening, during that one loose-vamping instrumental interlude, when the red and the blue light shone down on him from either side just so, and the tightly pressed fans on the floor gazed up at him just so, and his head had a proud outward tilt: For a brief, weird, mixed-metaphor moment, Willie

  • Boyz II Men, Willie Nelson, and Meat Puppets: Your Monday Morning Hangover

All Shook Down correspondent Jonathan Kiefer waxed poetic in his review of the evening, painting Nelson in red and blue lights such that he resembled Shepard Fairey's poster of Barack Obama - if you're a literalist, there's a web site you can visit to re create just that.
