As the Dodo Flies

It's been too long since a San Francisco band broke the indie music industry ceiling to garner national acclaim — but the Dodos are doing their best to poke holes overhead. Since the release of its ebullient pop-folk pastiche, Visiter, earlier this year, the band has been invited to damn near every music festival around the globe. It's tough to nail down exactly what makes these guys tick, whether it's the twinkling toy piano in "Red and Purple" or the whirring backdrop and hiccupping chorus to "Ashley." There are so many odes to joy on this record, it's no surprise the disc has caught on with such a fire. The only downside to the Dodos' success: They rarely play S.F. anymore.
