Best Outdoor View of the City

Ina Coolbrith Park

Twin Peaks may be the go-to spot for a seat with a view, but it's not the only one in town. Instead, try Russian Hill and, more specifically, Ina Coolbrith Park. Built into the side of the steep hill, the park may not offer much in square acreage, but it more that holds its own against the bigger parks in town with its views. Named after California's first poet laureate, who was a companion and mentor to Mark Twain and Jack London, the park's sightlines reach poetic levels. From one of its many benches, you can get a clear view of all the major landmarks — Alcatraz, Transamerica Pyramid, Chinatown, Pier 39, and even a hint of the Golden Gate Bridge. Stay still and you'll see and hear the parrots and hummingbirds that reside in the park and surrounding areas.
