CCR Headcleaner: Show Preview

Wednesday, Jan 15 2014

It may seem strange, but elation lives in the twisted heart of CCR Headcleaner's brazenly loud and lumbering rock 'n' roll. The band's debut full-length — a dense barrage of woozy Southern riffs and turgid feedback — bares the hopeful title Lace the Earth with Arms Wide Open. The album's positive reception and a recent tour with Ty Segall power-trio Fuzz shows that long-struggling CCR Headcleaner is on a career upswing, but the chaos marking the quartet's four-year existence still lingers. Band members detail numerous life crises and trials in its interviews, and always have: When SF Weekly first got in touch with them, in 2010, all four members were homeless. But that — and the lack of a proper release — didn't keep them from touring the U.S. for two-and-a-half months. Nowadays, things are looking up. On last year's run with Fuzz, they didn't even need to scout trash bins for food. They did it anyway.
