Choirgirl-cum-club diva DJ Colette headlines the 11th Annual Etd. Pop

Wednesday, May 21 2008

Chicago DJ and producer Felix Da Housecat (aka Felix Stallings) has been a fixture on the international dance scene since the early '90s, when he first came to prominence with disorienting tribal house cuts like "In the Dark We Live." For the last several years, he's had fun exploring a dirtier and more electro-fried disco sound. His most recent big single, "Like Something for Porno," works its breezy, Donna Summer–esque edge into something far more hedonistic than the original it reinterprets. Felix DJs on Friday, May 23, at Slide at 8 p.m. Admission is $20; call 421-1916 or visit Tamara Palmer

Singer-songwriter Colette made her name as a member of the all-woman DJ group Superjane, singing over dance tracks and moving crowds during the troupe's longtime residency at Chicago's world-famous SmartBar. Having previously studied classical voice, the choirgirl-cum–club diva brings a host of styles to bear on Push, her second full-length for S.F.-based label Om. Picking up where her 2005 debut, Hypnotized, left off, the album's seductive charms are evident from the opening bars of its first single, "About Us," an upbeat amalgam of glossy, Kylie Minogue–esque pop melodies, Chicago deep house-inspired beats, and slick, hip-hop–infused production values. Colette is one of two dozen DJs at Skills' 11th Annual etd.Pop on Saturday, May 24, at the Cow Palace. Admission is $47-$1,102; visit . J. Niimi
