Clubs preview: Javelin

As foreshadowed by a pair of 12-inches on the Thrill Jockey label, Javelin's debut album is a feel-good free-for-all. No Más cruises through genres and decades with a dizzying looseness. There is psychedelic funk and soul, cosmic disco, strings-lathered pop, and best of all, the chintzy Nintendo melody and cartoon rapping of "Oh! Centra." Javelin is the work of Brooklyn-based cousins Tom Van Buskirk and George Langford, originally from Rhode Island. A wealth of sparkling instrumentals offset the album's vocal tracks, and some songs feel more like quick snippets, but that's just part of this band's jukebox-worthy range.
