Crimes Craigslist could have been charged with

Wednesday, Jun 10 2009

The Attorney General of South Carolina recently threatened Craigslist management with criminal prosecution for prostitution ads on the site. (He later backed down.) What are some other crimes that Craigslist could have been charged with?

• Real estate fraud, because one of the houses for rent in Hayes Valley doesn't look anything like its pictures

• Emotional battery, because it turns out "Jim" did not want to be "strictly platonic"

• Libel. Did you SEE what "Conservative182" wrote about "ChomskyRocks" in the music forum?

• Second-degree murder of the newspaper industry

• Harassment: I put up a personal ad, and now all these guys won't stop e-mailing me pictures of their penises.

• False advertising: The "best of Craigslist" so isn't.

• Intellectual property infringement: That peace sign belongs to Disney. Give it back!

• Attempted murder: You're killing us with that 2001 Web site design.

• Child abuse: People in the "parenting" forum give terrible advice!

• Identity theft: The person who posts under "StarGazer182" isn't! Don't be fooled!

• Stealing all of SF Weekly's hooker ads
