Crystal Stilts: Show Preview

Imagine a hazy '60s-reminiscent garage-pop track anchored in a droning organ and a jangly guitar melody — a song that could comfortably fit into the distant, surreal world of Blue Velvet. Now, have three fine ladies in gymwear do the "Stanky Legg" to said song. These are the wonders that YouTube hath wrought. While Crystal Stilts' "Sugar Baby" (from 2009's "Love Is a Wave" single) and a club dance fad make a bizarre pairing, the well-circulated Stanky Legg clip is a subtle reminder that, for as dour a vibe the Stilts' sonics might give off, there's still some cheer and sweetness there. (After all, that song's lyrical thesis is Brad Hargett reciting, "Sugar baby/You're my sugar baby.") The Brooklyn quintet's psychedelic new LP, In Love with Oblivion, explores more emotional hues, getting anxious on "Prometheus at Large" and channeling teenage liberation on "Through the Floor."
