David Bazan: Show Preview

Wednesday, Oct 13 2010

David Bazan has never been one for self-censorship. As the sole constant member of Seattle indie stalwarts Pedro the Lion, he set the narratives of his unflinching smarts to slowcore worship hymns, folksy murder ballads, and seething reprisal rock. Since going solo in 2006, he has continued to tackle demons, his own and all of ours, with a devastating ear for lyrical detail: idiot politicians, marital infidelity, and, on last year's Curse Your Branches, his encroaching disillusionment with his Christian faith. Like Pedro the Lion, Bazan's initial solo recordings were relatively austere, but each outing has added a bit more volume and intricacy to cushion that raging soul. For this tour he fronts a four-piece band; odds are good he'll stop the set now and then to field questions from the audience.
