DIIV: Show Preview

The members of DIIV truly adore three things: reverb, misspellings, and water. Zachary Cole Smith, the centrifugal force of the Brooklyn four-piece and ex-Beach Fossils member, swathes his voice and guitar lines alike in downy, sparkling echoes before spiking the mélange with a pinch of menace. The young band formerly known as Dive (but still pronounced the same way) released its balmy debut record, Oshin (spoken like "ocean"), in 2012. Based on an interview Smith did with Pitchfork last year, the origin of the group's moniker is rooted in an "epic text" bassist Devin Ruben Perez wrote while on acid, Nirvana's "Dive," and everyone in the band having a water sign in astrology. To properly absorb DIIV effect's, blast the tunes while driving toward the ocean as a summer sun fades.
