Exodus: Show Preview

Wednesday, Dec 18 2013

Pioneering East Bay thrash-metal outfit Exodus could have imploded when Metallica nicked its founding guitarist, Kirk Hammett, to replace drunken douchebag Dave Mustaine in 1983. Instead, the Gary Holt-led quintet has spent the better part of three decades cementing its place in metal history with neck-snapping lessons of violence. From the mosh-pit anthems "And Then There Were None" and "Strike of the Beast" found on the band's classic 1985 debut Bonded By Blood through the more intricate thrash epics produced by the current line-up, Exodus has always kept its standard for sonic brutality high. While Holt has spent much of the last three years filling in for ailing Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman (who sadly passed away in May), he returns to his main passion when the band headlines this rare local club show with SoCal grindcore extremists Nails and S.F. thrash acolytes Hell Fire.
