Festive Felt

Wednesday, Dec 4 2013

There are a lot of specialty events for buying gifts in the Bay Area, but few of them can match the size and scope of the KPFA Crafts Fair. An annual holiday tradition in its 43rd year, the fair features more than 200 exhibitors specially curated to reflect the diversity of the region. New this year is the "Edible Tastings" section, where hungry visitors can sample the treats on display from local food artisans. Also special this year is a reduced door price. Organizers are offering a two-for-one entry package to commemorate the scheduled closing of the fair's longtime home at the Concourse Exhibition Center. As for the gifts, fair producer Jan Etre is most excited about the large metal sculptures of Chad Heise, which will decorate the lobby of the concourse, and the funky felt hats of Lauri Chambers. "People who know felt hats flock to her booth," Etre says.
