Fujiya & Miyagi: Show Preview

Despite the name — a combination of a record player brand and a Southern Californian sensei — Fujiya & Miyagi is a groove-anchored, glitch-spattered British quartet, not an audiophile martial arts mentor. Then again, is there much difference between the steady journeying of a needle on vinyl, the repetition of forms, and integrating brooding beat signatures? They're all about balancing consistency and drawing compelling details from the seemingly mundane. Inspired by Krautrock, glam rock, and chamber pop, Fujiya & Miyagi look for those pockets of tense stimulation, applying Teutonic syncopation to their electronic jamming. On the group's new full-length, Ventriloquizzing, Fujiya & Miyagi get blunted over palpitations punctuated by spurts of analog synths.
