Go Forth and Sin Some More

Wednesday, Apr 8 2009
The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence have become such a dependable fixture in the San Francisco fund-raising and social landscape, we sometimes forget they’re festooned in ear brassieres. The organization is a constant reassurance that whiteface and glitter are alive, and playful charity is afoot. With fabulous names plucked fresh outta the zany bin (Sister Chastity Boner, Sister Edith Myflesh, Sister Farrah Moans), the gals with the habits have been crafting and facilitating purely social as well as serious fund-raising events for 30 years, with an emphasis on combining fun and self-love. At “Under a Full Moon: 30 Years of Perpetual Indulgence,” auspiciously held on Good Friday, witness rituals, readings, and a selection of performances from the Sisters’ past. Look for the Sister Sock Show, the Pitch Bitches, the Condom Savior Mass, and more. There’s also a demonstration of how to apply the trademark face make-up. Two days later, on Easter Sunday, is the annual Sisters-helmed Children’s Easter in Dolores Park, as well as the Bonnet Contest and Hunky Jesus contest. Set your pastels aside and fire up some fluorescents. He has risen!
