Adhering to the Reinheitsgebot - the Bavarian Beer Purity Law of 1516 - Gordon Biersch brews traditional German-style lagers and wheat beers designed for easy drinking. Sometimes a Czech-style Pilsner or Bamburg-style Rauchbier (so smoky you'd swear there was bacon in it) shows up on draft. The brew system in the corner is not just for show. All the beers are brewed on-site and complement the German and American pub-grub as evidenced by the time-tested pairing of their flagship Märzen amber lager and their patented garlic fries. More potent boozing options are also available (rainbow-colored cocktails dominate the beverage list) along with sliders, crab cakes, and other suds-simpatico specialties. (The blue cheese and bacon potato chips are especially tasty.) Terrific location near the Bay Bridge; the crowd is mostly Financial District lunchers, tourists, and pre-game Giants fans.
