La Plebe: Show Preview

Wednesday, Jan 8 2014

Punk is an international language. So even though most San Franciscans probably haven't heard of La Plebe — a local punk band whose name means "The People," and which has been inciting mosh pits around the Bay Area since 2001 — plenty of punk rockers across the globe have. The bilingual outfit's politically charged lyrics, relentless tempos, and ska/mariachi brass flourishes have taken it on tour to 17 countries, including Mexico, the U.K., Western Europe, and the Balkans. The Clash's Mick Jones even once joined the group onstage in London to sing "Guns of Brixton" — a solid pairing, since La Plebe's righteous rock owes more than a few debts to Jones' old band. This is soaring, fist-pumping, slam-dancing uptempo punk rock. You won't need to speak Spanish to get the message.
