Presidential suite

Wednesday, Nov 13 2013

Those crazy kids from LEVYdance are at it again, this time in a house that's been a home to 44 generals in 66 years and opened its doors to innumerable illustrious guests, including presidents Ulysses S. Grant and Rutherford B. Hayes. The fine domicile in question is none other than the exquisitely preserved General's Residence at Fort Mason, where LEVYdance will restage its site-specific work ROMP. The show mixes a cast of 12 dancers with audience members around banquet tables, taking everyone through the various chambers with humor, athleticism, and intensity, culminating in a feast. ROMP was dubbed one of the "Top Ten Moments in Dance" by the San Francisco Chronicle after its premiere in 2011 — if you missed out then or are hungry for something substantial in advance of Tofurkey Day, celebrate American military history and choreographic innovation here.
