Forging ahead while founder Caitlin Myer rewrites one of her two in-progress novels from Uruguay, The Portuguese Artists Colony returns to the Hotel Rex for the latest in their semi-monthly series with the theme “Road Trip.” In town from Chicago as one of the featured readers is Patricia Ann McNair, whose short story collection The Temple of Air was selected as book of the year by the Chicago Writers Association. Also featured is San Francisco-based Siamak Vossoughi, who writes endearing stories that hinge on a passionate but well-reasoned ethical framework. Brooke D. will play music during Live Writing – a contest in which writers respond to an audience-selected prompt – which this month includes Silvi Alcivar (who writes poetry on demand as The Poetry Store), along with fiction maven Sona Avakian, McNair, and Amol Ray. Shanthi Sekaran returns with a developed version of last month’s winning story, and host Tim Bauer also shares work.
