All that glitters isn't gold: If "company founders have long believed that heightened competition drives productivity," as the [reporter] writes, then I do not think California, or the U.S., would have legal codes of "no competition" or copyrights ["There's Gold in Them Thar Labor Regulations," Rachel Swan, News, 10/23]. I think the contrary argument is more likely demonstrated: Company founders have long feared competition that threatens their productivity!
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. needs a revamp, fast: Nailed it. I so wanted to like this, but it just sucks ["Agents of S.H.E.E.S.H.," Katy St. Clair, Kill Your Television, 10/23]. It pains me to say so, but if they don't reboot this thing fast, this thing will get tossed out the window like so much detritus. Sad.
The legal system isn't supposed to jail an innocent man for 20 years: Lady Justice wears a blindfold, which is supposed to represent blind justice, handed out without fear or favor regardless of race, creed or class ["The Man Who Returned," James Robinson, feature, 10/16]. Are we still living in caves, how can something like this keep happening?
A protest, not a riot: I can't believe this, he should have been fired in the first place, if not jailed. These students were not rioting — this was a peaceful protest ["John Pike, Pepper-Spraying Cop, Gets Big Payout From Depression Claim," Erin Sherbert, the Snitch, 10/23]. What he did was so wrong.
SF Weekly knows how to dance: SF Weekly has some of the best arts and dance coverage around, keep it up ["Nederlands Dans Theater Returns in All Its Glory," Irene Hsiao, the Exhibitionist, 10/24]. The article piqued my interest about the show; I think I'll give it a go.
Reflective piece by Austrian fellow provides insightful views: Kudos to Austria! Frankly, America would be better off if we had a civilized shopping schedule, and most likely a lot less debt ["An Austrian in San Francisco: The Freedom of Shopping at Night," Jeannine Hierlander, the Exhibitionist, 10/21]. Our collective conscience seems to want to buy disposable garbage at cheap prices and eat fast, fatty poison. What kind of country makes its lowest-paid workers work on holidays, when everyone else is spending time with friends and family? America has been on a steady decline since we replaced church and family on Sunday with consumerism and football.
