Shaking Up Shakespeare

Written by the acclaimed playwright Paula Vogel, Desdemona: A Play About A Handkerchief retells Shakespeare’s Othello entirely from the perspective of the female characters. Vogel reinvents the virtuous Desdemona as a vixen, guilty of much more than her husband ever suspected and modeling herself on Bianca, a likely courtesan in the original but here portrayed as the owner of a brothel. It's a thrilling inversion: Desdemona charges towards her demise with gusto.
Wednesdays-Sundays. Starts: Sept. 23. Continues through Nov. 5, 2011
