Show preview: Glitch Mob

Wednesday, Jun 9 2010

After the Glitch Mob got started, the TV on the Radio–remixing L.A. trio's tour rider included an unusual requirement: permission to perform very close to its audience, so as to maximize the sense of rhapsodic chaos. Although that clause got axed when the group acquired more expensive gear to worry about, the electro/IDM outfit's wild shows still aim to swallow you whole. Mob concerts, armed with electronic drum kits, keyboards, a mountain of speakers, and projection images (quite the upgrade from a gang of laptops), encourage attendees to tear it up in pursuit of physical pleasures. Warped percussion, intergalactic blips, heavy club-thumping bass, and a few distorted hollers assist in pushing you to the edge. If you end a Glitch Mob show without sweating excessively in a jammed crowd, the members must not have done their jobs right.
