Sizzle

We didn't believe it would happen, but Morrissey finally played a concert date in the Bay Area. After canceling four shows in the last two years, Moz proved in San Jose that he's still pretty magnetic, performing "Hand in Glove," "Meat Is Murder," and many solo tunes.

Viracocha, the semi-secret underground venue in the Mission, is trying to go legal, and asking for your help. The oddball store and performance space has a public meeting with the Entertainment Commission at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20, in City Hall room 416. You can also sign a petition online and email the commission your views on why Viracocha should be permitted to operate as a legit venue.

The outdoor Phono del Sol concert has become a favorite summer event in S.F. Wye Oak and locals Thao and the Get Down Stay Down are headlining this year's edition. Blackbird Blackbird, A Million Billion Dying Suns, and the Tambo Rays fill out the lineup for the July 12 show at Potrero del Sol Park.

Fizzle

About that Morrissey show: It ended slightly early, when a crazed devotee broke through security, climbed onstage, and hugged Moz in the middle of "One Day Goodbye Will Be Farewell." TMZ tried to claim that Moz was "attacked" onstage, but this is pretty common behavior. Hardcore fans even call it a "stage invasion."

We went to the Frozen singalong at the Castro Theatre and barely lived to tell the tale. There were crying children, costumed adults, Rocky Horror-style crowd participation, and a room full of little ones screaming along to every single line of the movie. Clearly we underestimated the popularity of the worst pile of shit ever made.

As of press time, the entire world (or, okay, our Twitter feed) is buzzing with intrigue at a surveillance video that shows Solange Knowles trying to attack her sister Beyonce's husband, Jay Z, inside an elevator at a New York hotel. What went wrong between them? Why was Solange so intent on hurting Jay Z? Theories abound — but right now it seems all is not well in Beyland.
