TV on the Radio
TV on the Radio performs on Sunday, Nov. 9, at 8 p.m. $25-28, www.goldenvoice.com.
Four albums into its haphazard career, TV on the Radio arrived as a cohesive unit with Dear Science. On the new album, the Brooklyn art project brings all the improbable influences from past albums — shoegaze, doo-wop, mess-aesthetics, and whatever else you could fit into a good secondhand record shop — into sharp melodic focus. Nothing sounds cloyingly radio-ready here, but the gospel-tinged funk of "Golden Age" hints at a future when TV on the Radio will be America's biggest band. For now, it'll have to settle for being the most important.
