The Twelve Days of Cochina

Ignore Marga Gomez's political forays and giggle along with her sex talk

Comments
From the get-go of her latest one-woman show, comedienne Marga Gomez makes it clear that everything she has ever done, and everything she's going to do for the next hour and 45 minutes, is for sex. Not romantic, heartfelt sex (though she'd take that kind, too), but sex any way she can get it — from her neighbors, from a childhood toy, from a store manager at Walgreens. Gomez makes some ill-advised attempts to connect this misguided lust to the anti-sex ethos of our current administration. Not only are these political forays unoriginal, but they're also dull: Pondering what the government wants to do to suppress us isn't nearly as enjoyable as watching the consequences of Gomez suppressing herself. I mean, who hasn't had a less-than-noble Walgreens moment at a vulnerable point in her life? You might not admit it out loud, but you'll be happy to giggle along as Gomez puts her own raucous times on such infectious display. — Molly Rhodes
