The Zeros

Wednesday, Jul 15 2009

There's nothing wrong with being called the "Hispanic Ramones." But the Zeros' bio seems too focused on the acts they sound like, or those they played with on legendary bills such as the Germs' debut at the Orpheus and the "St. Patrick's Day Massacre" show with X and the Go-Gos. The band is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a handful of shows that include original members Javier Escovedo and Robert Lopez (yes, El Vez). The group's finer moments — "Wimp," "Beat Your Heart Out," and "Wild Weekend" — alone should prove why the Zeros are a point of reference in and of themselves.
