This Art Is Sexiest!

Someone complained about Spy Emerson's art; said it was sexist. This was in Berkeley, Spy is a woman, and the art was at the Saturn Cafe, a vegetarian diner owned by feminists. The cafe asked Emerson to take the art down. She was mad. The cafe was bummed. Point being, whoever complained a) never lived on Earth very much if they think hilarious collage-art made of old Hustlers and weird food is a problem, and b) is apparently perfectly happy to have fucked with the lives and livelihoods of a bunch of opinionated, hardworking women. Complainer, wherever you are — we're usually in favor of complaining. It can be very important work. But for shit's sake, could you complain about someone who's actually damaging feminism, if you care about it that much? Let's all talk more about it at the very funny response from the artist: a debate, called “Is This Sexist? Let's Debate!” It's set up inside the remount of the show, which used to be called “Eat It” but is now called "Books from the Underground Public Library.” The debate is moderated by Hal Robins, and it involves a singing cowboy.
