Restaurant Details

Almost impossible to spot on your first pass, Toyose, a tiki-esque converted garage, is primarily a soju bang: a bar specializing in soju, vodka's less-alcoholic Korean cousin. Great flocks of young diners gather around the tables, inhaling pitchers of beer and cauldrons of army-camp stew, their progress interrupted with calls for soju shots. Toyose serves a legion of drinking snacks and street food -- from seafood pancakes to tteokbokgi, rice cakes in sweet-spicy sauce. As you walk to your table, you'll see plates of chicken wings everywhere, and for good reason. The pieces are very lightly battered and come scalding hot from the fryer, seasoned with salt, pepper, and chiles.
