Radio Birdman, Roger Waters, The Horrors -- Plugged In: ASD's Live Music Picks, June 19

Posted By on Tue, Jun 19, 2007 at 7:00 AM

The Horrors, 8pm, Popscene. $5

"The Horrors bring a dose of dark glamour to an increasingly anodyne British alternative music scene too heavily indebted either to Oasis and the Libertines, or earnest post-punk. They blend their twin influences of early ‘80s goth and ‘60s garage to startling effect." --PopMatters

Roger Waters, 8pm, Oracle Arena. $Lots

"Roger Waters has always had a great FM-radio voice. With its subtly rumbling bottom mitigated by a rich, breathy rasp, his singing has often exuded the warm, hi-fi intimacy of the best FM jocks. It has the same luxuriant vividness as his approach to recorded sound, which may explain why Waters's old band, Pink Floyd, was such a staple in the early days of FM rock." --Rolling Stone

Radio Birdman, 8pm, Slim's. $20

"Melodic bomp, such as "Die Like April," tolls like the UK's second wave, especially "Heyday," opening with, "Who were you in your heyday? Did you blow-up, or lose your face?" Reaching daylight on opener "We've Come So Far (To Be Here Today)," cement truck follow-up "You Just Make It Worse," and the combustible "Connected," Zeno Beach shimmies 10 minutes too long, and 4:20 short of Tek's Silver Surfer perfection, "Descent Into the Maelstrom." Dominance! Sub-mission." --The Austin Chronicle
