Drop the pork chop and no one gets hurt! That's right folks, it's World Vegetarian Day, which couldn't come at a better time, seeing as how the Agriculture Department last week recalled 21.7 million pounds of ground beef that may be contaminated with E. coli bacteria. Timing is everything.
But if you've already partaken of the flesh today, not to worry, because October is Vegetarian Awareness Month. That means you have thirty more days to feel terrible about that side of bacon you ordered with breakfast. And to all those worried about global warming: according to the U.N., livestock business generates more greenhouse gas emissions than all forms of transportation combined.
As a concession to this holiday, I personally pledge to refrain from making jokes about vegetarians for the entire day. Who knows, maybe I'll even win the World Vegetarian Day Contest!
