If you didn't score tickets to Treasure Island or if outdoor music festivals just really aren't your thing, never fear. There are still many excellent ways to make the most out of this lovely September weekend.
Friday night over in Berkeley, indie greats My Morning Jacket play the Greek Theatre on their tour, promoting the album "Evil Urges." But if you're more of a webby kind of person, then...
"Join the Digg crew for Friday afternoon beers and a permitted romp down the streets of San Francisco. Meet up at 3rd and Townsend this Friday 9/19, between the hours of 3:00pm and 7:00pm to enjoy a frosty pint with the Web 2.0 set. There will be crossing guards, barricades, Digg swag and free drink tickets for the folks that RSVP! We will meet during and afterwards at a nearby bar (to be announced)."
Seattle's Fleet Foxes play a show at the Independent tonight in addition to their show at Treasure Island. They're not to be missed. Also, Landmark After Dark at the Clay Theatre has an excellent lineup for the weekend.
On Friday and Saturday at midnight go see the showing of The Wild World of Ted V. Michaels, a documentary about the film maker (narrated by John Waters!). After the documentary Friday is a showing of his film Corpse Grinders and on Saturday is a showing of Blood Orgy of the She Devils.
Saturday night is the perfect night for a picnic and a movie in Dolores Park. This week at eight you can catch O Brother, Where Art Thou?. If you haven't been to the newly revamped Warfield yet, head over to see the legendary Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds. Lookin' to do some dancing? There's an excellent Treasure Island show at the Mezzanine. The show features Tilly and the Wall, Foals, White Williams and the promise of a very special guest. Plus the show is FREE if you RSVP.
Sunday is football day. It's time to head to Monster Park to see our own San Francisco 49ers kick some Detroit ass. The game starts at 1 p.m.
Have a nice weekend, everyone! - Melissa Baron
