Weekend wrap-up by Janine Kahn
Happy Monday, ASD
nation. As usual, our weekend was all kinds of awesome and we're going to tell you all about it. Friday
was opening night for Dark Room director Jim Fourniadis' "Star Wars: Live on Stage." We were skeptical that anything good could come out of a $100 special effects budget, but the small cast truly delivered. Sure, one guy plays both Chewy and Vader and you may notice "TRASH" embossed on R2D2's faceplate, but stripped of blockbuster pomp, we find that the values that have made the series timeless still shine. (Aww.) Anyway, photographer Gretchen Robinette made it out to the Saturday leg of the show and brought back some fabulous pictures, including some of the director with his pet dressed as Princess Leia. Also on Friday:
Husband-wife photographers Mike and Jen Cash crashed Talking House Records' "A Foggy Holiday - Carols from the SF Scene" CD release party at Bottom of the Hill. Artists featured on the album, including The Heavenly States, I The Mighty, The Federalists and The Trophy Fire played their holiday tracks live and the whole thing was pretty darn festive. A portion of the door fees and 10 percent of all CD sales are going to be donated to the Grammy's MusiCares Foundation, which helps musicians in need of medical aid. Saturday at last:
Yours truly was filled with Filipino pride watching Pinoy funnyman Rex Navarrete crack up the Punchline Comedy Club. Surprisingly, the house wasn't brimming over with folks from the motherland. Most likely, they were holed up at a house in Daly City watching Manny Pacquiao kick some major butt. Full review to follow.
Sunday: Tamara Palmer, who doubles as SFoodie's main blogger, went off to Cupcake Camp. See the above video for a taste.
