Local DJs Disco Shawn (left) and DJ Oro11 have spent the past year bringing a bit of Buenos Aires to San Francisco. They're the masterminds behind the regular Tormenta Tropical club night, which mixes beats and cultures, throwing cumbia music into hiphop, electro, and techno tracks. They're celebrating their first anniversary at the Elbo Room tonight, where they'll share a bill with "Caribbean ravers" Heatwave and Mad Decent's Paul Devro. Forget the winter storm blanketing the Bay: It's a lot more fun to sweat it out Tropical style. --Jennifer Maerz

The San Francisco Street Food Festival was another success this year. Dozens of vendors with original, unheard-of creations, such as deep fried mac and cheese on a stick, black pea paste pancakes, and Korean quesadillas. Then there was the comfort foods we've grown accustomed to, like creme bruleé, shrimp rolls, and pound cake. Photographs by Mabel Jimenez.
