Yo! Majesty ... And Then There Was One

Two years ago at SXSW, dynamic lesbian hip-hop group Yo! Majesty blew away everyone crammed around them at the Beauty Bar. They were fierce on the mike, sharp with the insults, funny with the comebacks, and unafraid to slap a dude trying to cop a feel of their flesh. My gut was that these ladies were gonna hit big.

But then their album got delayed and delayed again. They went from a trio to a duo. And now, on the eve of their February 13 show at Slim's, more bad news: MC Jewel B will not be on this tour, due to "personal reasons making it impossible for her to travel," according to her publicist. And while the same PR company promises sole remaining member Shunda K can still bring it, when you cut a trio down to one, there's no way Yo! Majesty is gonna bring the same fire as they had that one Austin night all those months back. Too bad, as these women really had some momentum there for a minute.

Blue skies meet redwood canopies in the mountain town of Felton, located just north of Santa Cruz on Highway 9. Once a bustling logging community, the town is now a mix of mellow locals and serene wilderness. Visitors can enjoy the redwoods in nearby Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park and splash in swimming holes in the San Lorenzo River. For a bite to eat stop by Rocky’s Cafe for fruit-laden pancakes, barbeque at the Cowboy Bar & Grill and poolside burgers at the Trout Farm Inn.
