Track of the Day: Popo

This recommendation came via John Dwyer of Thee Oh Sees, who listed Philly no-wave trio Popo amongst his favorite new acts.

The band possesses the lo-fi sprawl that's all the rage (again) but their blown-out-like-ya-ate-bad-tacos bass adds a demonic side to the sound that's sorta like the Grifters meet the Intelligence. I particularly like "Kill Tonight," Popo's anthem for being all riled up with no legal outlet for all that negative energy. Bonus points for the metal falsetto coda too.
