Tonight there are too many choices for local bands playing Mission Creek gigs around the city. A couple of our top picks:

Sic Alps headline a showcase of punk on an acid trip at the Hemlock: Linda Hagood, "psychloner" Tom Greenwood, and Dragging an Ox Through Water.

You could also, of course, dance off the week at the Eagle with Bronze, where the beats get muddled with some heavily lysergic synth work.

And if you wanna trade the drugs for something excitedly uptempo, you can't go wrong with the Downer Party. Hardly down on anything, this band--with sugary female vocals, a dizzying punk momentum, and hooks so sharp they'll claw at you for days. "Being a Teenager is Free Palestine" has a confusing title for a song, but being an adolescent is hardly the age of clarity. The tune, which you can stream from the Downer Party's MySpace page, has little to do with the Middle East. Rather it's about party-hopping around the world, from getting knighted in England to living it up in Spain and France. A decidedly different sort of trip from the other bands playing tonight, but no less free spirited.
