The best thing about the weather getting better? It means it's almost time to hit Highway 1 for those amazing lawn shows down in Big Sur. The Henry Miller Library is, hands down, my favorite venue in Northern California (next to its neighbor up the road, the Fernwood). It's pretty intimate (capacity is around 200), there's a one-room cabin-cum-bookstore of great Beat lit on the premises, and you can camp under the redwoods after the show. Plus, the outdoor space has the least "concert" vibe of any concert I've been to, with a low stage, and fans spread out on blankets with picnic baskets.

I'm thinking things are going to get a little more crowded down in Big Sur this spring, though, starting next month. Yo La Tengo is adding to the tail end of its three-night run in San Francisco with a gig at the Henry Miller Library on April 30.

Then in May and June, (((FolkYeah))) presents two Big Sur shows that are sure to sell out quickly, if they haven't already. Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros ups the rock 'n' roll energy by the sea with a gig at the Library on May 26. On Thursday, June 4, be prepared to call in sick to work. At "high noon," The xx will bring its sweet pop seduction to the great outdoors.

More info on the (((FolkYeah))) shows can be found here; Henry Miller Library events are also listed here
