It'll be interesting to see whether the South African "zef" act/performance artists/publicity stunt (how to classify these guys?) work as a recording act on a major label. Internet sensations Die Antwoord earned themselves a deal from the dying music industry: as Pitchfork reported, Interscope signed on to release the crew's debut. And just to prove they're serious, these video-savvy, slang-hawking provocateurs went one step further. Antwoord's Ninja got the world's worst tattoo (dollar signs and a ying-yang symbol) to show he's serious.
We may have the next Lady Gaga on our hands here--a group whose clever, bizarre aesthetic trumps its music, seducing you into the full package before you realize what hit you. I'm definitely curious where they'll take the public's attention from here.
