Paul Salva has a firm grasp on cutting-edge beat scenes around the world. He's the innovative force behind one of San Francisco's freshest labels (Frite Nite), musical projects (Salva), and club nights (Change the Beat).
For our first edition of this new weekly DJ mix series, we asked Salva to throw together the jams that best illustrate his personal style and a few favorites from his DJ sets, and to give us the rundown on the songs. The mix he's created here can only be described as pure, filthy dancefloor heat.

1. Lorn & Zackey Force Funk - "Hotline"
"This is unreleased I think. These dudes did some dark parlor funk, some funky, dark electro steez [with] really fun vocals and authentic synths. This is some shit I roll around and plot to."
2. T La Rock - "It's Yours (DJ Wreck's Psilo Bass Mix)"
"The homie DJ Wreck from Miami, keeping it straight minimal dirt on this remix of the classic hip-hop tune. Super dirt...Wreck is of the best DJs putting it down in Miami for many years, [staying] true to his classic bass sound."
3. Lazer Sword - "Shot In the Nite"
"You can cop this in Stones Throw's store, just came out on 7" I believe. Lazer Sword is worldwide! Can't wait for their full-length album to drop. This is one of my favorite joints of theirs as of late, with the super fun sample and straight ugly beats. These guys are the sound of the Bay Area underground, IMO."
4. Lorn - "Void"
"Wanted to put this dark, moody interlude in the mix. Lorn is a very talented gentleman. His album comes out on Flying Lotus' label Brainfeeder this summer, but I'm not sure if this track is on it. He is one of my favorite and most sophisticated sound designers, his stuff just cuts through a sound system."
