Awesome alert: In a feat of either badassery or hubris, Italian DJ, Grammy-winner, and all-around-suave-dude Benny Benassi plans to ride a fixie -- yes, a single-speed, fixed-gear bicycle -- down the coast of California on his upcoming tour.

The bike tour kicks off after Benassi's set at Ruby Skye in San Francisco on September 10. He starts riding the next morning at the parking lot across from the Beach Chalet on Great Highway, and must scoot down to Santa Cruz in time for a gig that night at the Catalyst Club. Benassi continues the ride after that, with stops for shows in San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, L.A., and San Diego over the course of nine days. You can even ride with him if you want.

What is Benassi thinking? Turns out he really digs two-wheelers. Benassi started riding at age six, and considered going pro before he turned to crafting huge dancefloor-shaking electro house tunes instead. For the trip, he'll be riding a fixie that was custom built in Italy, of course.

Benassi claims to be the first DJ ever to do "a major West Coast club tour" on a fixie bike. But surely, in this bike-loving part of the world, other musicians have done tours up and down the coast on their bikes? Right? Anyone?
